Donald Trump buried his ex-wife Ivana next to the first hole of Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. According to Business Insider, this could bring substantial tax breaks to the former US president and businessman. The fact is, under the tax code of the state of New Jersey, cemetery land is exempt from all taxes and duties. Cemetery companies are also exempt from all property taxes, personal property taxes on their land and business taxes, sales taxes, income taxes and inheritance taxes.

Trump family trust tax documents released by ProPublica show that the trust is attempting to register the property in Hacketstown, NJ as a for-profit cemetery company, even though the site itself is 20 miles away.

Ivana Trump was the first to be buried at this golf course, even though Trump had planned to build a cemetery there long ago. In 2012, information surfaced that she was planning to build a mausoleum where she would one day be buried. Trump later changed his proposal to build a cemetery on the site, proposing that more than a thousand graves be laid. He then planned to change the design again to create a “private family cemetery with 10 plots”, then changed the proposal to include a 284 plot cemetery with graves for sale.

Trump has saved taxes before. So, according to an investigation by The New York Times, in 2016, while Trump was campaigning and the first year of his stay in the White House, the politician paid just $750 in federal income tax. Prior to that, Trump had not paid federal income taxes for 10 years, citing job losses.

Ivana Trump passed away at her Upper East Side home on July 14. She was 73 years old. She was the first of Donald Trump’s three wives. They lived in marriage from 1977 to 1992. They had three children: sons Donald Jr. and Eric and his daughter Ivanka.
