To perform his demonstration, Matthew Newman isolated a strand of damp hair, which he then pre-dried with his bellows brush – here the famous Dyson Airwrap, but the professional determines that the technique works with all types of brushes.

With the round head bumps, he then grabbed the lengths at the roots to smooth them out, then wrapped the rest of the wick once around the brush.
