“I thought it was going to be a good movie, but I was working on a very small detail,” says Paltrow.
He went on a learning trip to Israel in 2018 to track down and conduct filmed interviews with people associated with building the furnace, with the vague idea of using the footage on film.
It has become a fictional tale based on these accounts and the drama now revolves around the stories of the chief of the Eichmann prison guard, a Holocaust survivor who helped arrest and prosecute war criminals and a young Jewish newcomer to Israel. . Another turning point was the co-script of the screenplay by Israeli director Tom Shoval.

Israeli film critic and Tel Aviv University film professor Ariel Schweitzer linked Paltrow to Shoval. The couple immediately agreed.

Paltrow accepted the challenge, with the couple pacing back and forth between English and Hebrew versions and retranslations.
“I didn’t find the learning curve as steep as I initially thought,” says Paltrow. “When we go through the trial process, even if my Hebrew is not good, I understand it.”
Another challenge was Paltrow’s decision to shoot in 16mm to give the film a 1960s vibe.
“I wanted to kill him,” jokes producer David Silber of Metro Communications, based in Tel Aviv, who faced the challenge of taking the film to a laboratory in Romania amid travel restrictions due to the pandemic.
