US Supreme Court Roe v. Following Wade’s decision, Google said Friday that it will no longer retain data about people visiting clinic websites and abortion information.
The company said it will quickly remove the location history of people visiting abortion and other medical disruption websites.
“Today we announce that if our systems identify that someone has visited a place, we will delete those records from the location history immediately after your visit,” wrote Jen Fitzpatrick, senior vice president of core systems and experiences at Google. To the blog post.
The quick-delete list includes places like counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, abortion clinics, and fertility centers, which “can all be particularly personal.”

“Fitbit users who have chosen to track their menstrual cycle in the app can currently delete their menstrual records one at a time and we will release updates that will allow users to delete multiple records at once.”
Data removed by Google and other devices could be used to target users in states where abortion is now illegal. Google did not say how it would respond to law enforcement requests for data. However, he said he would “proceed with requests that are too broad or legally questionable”.
