John McAfee Family Pressed Spanish Authorities for More Details on Anniversary of His Death

The family of software pioneer John McAfee has increased demand for answers in a Spanish prison cell a year after his mysterious death.

McAfee’s body was found in a Spanish morgue. She was awaiting extradition to the United States on charges of tax evasion when she was found dead in a cell in Barcelona. She was 75 years old.

As the creator of the first commercial antivirus software, McAfee has spent the last few years in the world of cryptocurrencies and sweeping global conspiracies.

“It’s hard to put into words what life has been like over the past year,” said Janice, McAfee’s widow. He wrote on Twitter on Thursday..

McAfee was arrested in Spain and sentenced to eight months in prison until his death, which authorities said was a suicide. His family disagreed and demanded a further investigation. His body awaits trial.

In 2016 and 2020, McAfee, a former third-party candidate for the US Presidency, was worth $100 million at one point. Although most of these were lost in the 2008 market crash, he still lived a lavish lifestyle from a base in Ambergay, Belize.

There, Belize police identified him as the man involved in the murder of Gregory Foley, 52, an American who complained about McAfee’s dogs before he was found dead with fatal gunshot wounds in his own home. McAfee was never charged in the case, but Belizean authorities have said they are actively looking for him.

He lost a death row filed in Florida by the Foley family. They won a prize of $25 million but were unable to collect it.
