Zurich Insurance has abandoned the Z-shaped logo. In two regions of Germany, criminal liability has been brought for displaying this symbol.
Swiss insurance company Zurich Insurance has removed the white-on-blue Z logo from social media indefinitely. Because this letter has also become the symbol of a special military operation that started in Ukraine on February 24, at the behest of Vladimir Putin. The company feared that they would be misunderstood.
– said Zurich Insurance representatives.
They added that they continue to monitor the situation in the world and are ready to “take further steps” if necessary.
One of the offices of Zurich Insurance
– Ksenia Sobchak spoke about this on the telegram channel.
– advised journalist Nadezhda Yay.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense explained that the letter Z stands for “For Victory”. This symbol is applied to Russian military equipment and is also used by civilians to show support for the Russian army and its actions in Ukraine.
Two regions of Germany – Lower Saxony and Bavaria – criminalized the public display of the Z symbol the other day. According to Deutschlandfunk, the penalty for violation can be a fine or up to three years in prison.
– The Bavarian Minister of Justice Georg Eisenreich commented on this decision.
Many companies have already faced problems due to the use of symbols similar to the letter Z. For example, Louis Vuitton has been criticized for promoting a new jewelery collection from the Volt line – on jewellery, netizens have seen the letter Z, but these are actually the brand’s unified brand initials, the letters L and V.
The Russian magazine Elle, whose March issue was titled “Generation Z”, faced similar criticisms.
