UK Could Host Next Year’s Eurovision Song Contest Instead of Ukraine

The UK is expected to host the Eurovision Song Contest next year after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) decided that the show would not be possible in Ukraine.

The event, which will take place in Ukraine in 2023, is very difficult, “given the operational and safety guarantees required by the broadcaster to host, organize and produce the Eurovision Song Contest in the current circumstances,” the EBU said in a statement.

Talks have begun with Britain’s BBC over the possibility of the country taking second place in last month’s Ukraine contest.

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won on May 14, and the convention will host next year’s winners of the event, but the war in the country has been raging for months following Russia’s February 23 invasion. Ukraine AU: PBC hosted twice, in 2005 and 2017.

The EBU said: “I.Our goal is for Ukraine’s victory to be reflected in next year’s shows. This will be a priority for us in our discussions with recent hosts. ”

After winning the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in May, the EBU was exploring options to host the contest next year with Ukrainian public broadcaster UA:PBC, which had previously hosted the event in 2017 and 2005.

It has become a well-known tradition to host the contest next year, which will guarantee certain criteria for the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, including the viability of the event and the safety of all stakeholders, including the public.

Given the ongoing war after Russia invaded the victorious country this year, the EBU took the time to conduct a full assessment and feasibility study with experts from both AU:PBC and third parties, including on security and protection issues.

The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the most challenging television programs in the world, with thousands of people working and participating in the event, which requires 12 months of preparation.

After an objective analysis, the reference group, the CES Executive Board, deeply regretted that, given the current situation, the security and operational guarantees required for the broadcaster to host, organize and produce Eurovision could not be fulfilled under the Convention. CES rules. Made by UA: PBC.

The EBU thanks UA:PBC for their sincere cooperation and commitment in exploring all arenas in the weeks following the Kalush Orchestra’s victory in Turin on 14 May and shares its sadness and disappointment that next year’s competition will not take place in Ukraine.

The EBU supports UA:PBC after occupying various areas. UA:We will ensure that this support continues so that PBC can continue its irreplaceable service to the Ukrainians.

As a result of this decision, in accordance with the rules and to ensure continuity of the event, the EBU will begin talks with the BBC as the second venue to potentially host the Eurovision 2023 in the UK this year.

We want Ukraine’s victory to be reflected in next year’s demonstrations. This will be a priority for us after our discussions with the hosts.
