Court cancels Kirill Serebrennikov’s suspended sentence in fraud case and removes his criminal record

According to the court’s website, the Moscow Khamovnichesky Court reversed the suspended sentence of director Kirill Serebrennikov in the Seventh Studio case and removed his criminal record. Thus, the court accepted the application made in January for the cancellation of probation before the trial period expired.

According to the telegraph channel “General Authorized Courts of Moscow”, it was taken into account that half of the established trial period has expired and the damage caused by the crime has been fully compensated. It was also noted that the convict “did not commit a violation during his sentence and was of a positive nature”.

Director Kirill Serebrennikov was accused of committing fraud on a particularly large scale. In case of embezzlement of 129 million rubles under the activities of the Seventh Studio, in 2020 he was sentenced to three years of probation and a fine of 800 thousand rubles. In addition, Serebrennikov and the other defendants in the case had to pay back the amount of embezzlement to the state.
In November of this year, it became known that the losses were reimbursed, and Serebrennikov also paid the fine imposed on him. After that, the arrest was removed from the property of the director. Earlier this year, the director was even allowed to travel abroad – rehearsing the play “The Black Monk” in Hamburg.
The defendants in the case are also Yuri Itin and Aleksey Malobrodsky – who were also sentenced to suspension (three and two years, respectively) – and Sofia Apfelbaum, who was fined.
