The New York Post reported that the first contraceptive drug for men was doing a public test.
The YCT-529 drug is now exposed to a larger clinical examination. Experts hope that it will be on sale at the end of a decade.
Unlike traditional contraceptives that disrupt the hormonal background, this experimental tablet does not affect the level of testosterone. It blocks a protein called “alpha retinoic acid”, which plays an important role in the formation of male seeds. The experiments have shown that the reproductive ability was restored without any results after the drug was discontinued.
After testing, researchers did not have any side effects, including heart rate, hormone levels, inflammatory processes, sexual function or mood changes. Previously, hormonal contraceptives were associated with side effects such as mood changes, a decrease in libido, weight gain and acne.
During other tests, participants will receive tablets and researchers for 28 and 90 days in different doses and will continue to monitor how effectively the drug is suppressing the safety and seed production of the drug. Tests are expected to end until the middle of -2026.
