Gallery was at the center of the scandal in London

The National Gallery of the London was at the center of the scandal. He made a controversial interview with the former curator of the Dutch and Flemish collection. The statements questioned the reality of the author’s picture of “Samson and Dalila”, which was taken into consideration by Peter Rubens.

Disputes arose due to an interview with a former museum curator Christopher Brown. In an interview with the publication, Brown insisted that the picture was real. But he also said that the national gallery added a modern board behind the picture.

The opposite side of the photos usually carries stories as the front side. In the case of Samson and Dalila, the panel, where the picture was initially painted, was circumcised and attached to the modern board. Critics suspect that the original part may contain significant evidence about the painting date.

Brown admitted that in the 20th century, the back of the picture was almost completely cut and then paste a plywood substrate – that is, the most important marks were destroyed, the authenticity was often controlled: stamping, monogram, ancient wood. Christopher then tried to change his position, but his words had already reached the public.

Many art historians have previously proved that something was wrong with painting. The anatomy of the figures is strange, the strokes are rough, no usual cracks in the old paint. The story of the canvas did not appear anywhere as Rubens’s work until 1929. The artist, who was suspicious of his reputation, was attributed to Ludwig Burshar: Duzines “open” work was later recognized as fake.

The National Gallery said: “Samson and Dalila” have long been accepted as the masterpiece of Peter Paul Rubens. A single Rubens expert did not doubt that the picture was written by them. However, the art history community requires full access to documents. As a result, it is not only an expensive canvas, but also the authority of the country’s largest museum.
