To each their own: How do Zoomers, Millennials, and X-ers choose work?

Recently, researchers have paid close attention to different approaches to work among representatives of different generations: Zoomers, Millennials and Xers. Online schools Skillfactory and Skillbox, together with the consulting company Opportunity Accelerator, with the support of the marketing research service Surveyolog.ru, revealed how the values of employees in these age categories differ. More than 2,400 people over 18 years old from all over Russia participated in the survey.

It turns out that Zoomers want remote work, a clear boundary between work and personal time, and a respectful attitude from management. Millennials are willing to work overtime as long as they have flexible schedules and high wages. Xers value stability more and the ability to take a vacation at the right time.

More than half (55%) of employers surveyed said they successfully recruit employees from different generations and know and take their needs into account. 73% recommend flexible working hours, 55% recommend remote working, and 63% support the idea of suitable working conditions for employees of different ages. Only 18% do not find the individual approach appropriate.

Interestingly, 64% of employers believe that to increase staff productivity, a reasonable salary must first be offered. Other factors affecting labor productivity were mentioned much less frequently.

The study also revealed details of the younger generation’s response to stress. Zoom users are more likely than other groups to worry about unclear tasks and changing demands. The researchers emphasize that employers should pay particular attention to young employees’ needs for open, respectful communication and support.

We’ve written before that the productivity of Zoomers and millennials is falling due to a lack of understanding from their superiors. You can find more information about the study here.
