Director and screenwriter Paul Schrader (“Pipeline,” “Light Sleep,” “Wolf to Man”) said he left the second “Joker” after 20 minutes.
“I watched it for ten or fifteen minutes. I left, bought something, came back, watched for another ten minutes. “That was enough,” he said, calling the sequel “a very bad musical.”
“I don’t like any of these people,” Schrader added. “I don’t like them as players. I don’t like them as characters. I don’t like all this. So if these people came to your house, you would sneak out through the back door,” said the director.
Schrader has worked closely with Martin Scorsese throughout his career, writing the screenplays for films such as Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, Raising the Dead and Taxi Driver. The latter film served as the main inspiration for the first Joker film in 2019.
Let us also remind you that the shooting of the second part of Joker: Madness for Two was completed in April. The film premiered on October 4, 2024. The new episode stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson and others. The producer was Todd Phillips, who also directed the first part of the film.
According to Variety, the sequel will likely end up grossing around $210 million worldwide, while the first episode collected $248.4 million three days after its release. The sequel’s budget is $200 million.
