Harvey Weinstein continues to prove his innocence of sex crimes. He was brought to trial in a wheelchair.
According to The New York Times, Weinstein appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court on Wednesday, September 18. The 72-year-old former movie mogul showed up for the hearing but missed Thursday’s hearing because he was in the hospital after undergoing emergency heart surgery.
Prosecutors have unsealed an indictment charging Weinstein with sexually assaulting a woman in a Manhattan hotel in 2006.
“Harvey has pleaded not guilty and has always maintained that position. As for the people he’s been with, he’s never forced anyone to be with him,” Judah Engelmayer told People.
Recall that Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2020 for two crimes: rape in 2013 and forced oral sex in 2006. Later, in February 2023, he was sentenced to another 16 years in prison for raping actress Jane Doe. Therefore, despite the review of the case, the producer remains in custody. The sentence was overturned in the spring.
Producer Harvey Weinstein’s accusers are ready to defend their position to the end. The date for the new trial was announced on Wednesday. A Manhattan judge said a new hearing in the celebrity case will be held in early September.
