Cillian Murphy has opened up for the first time about the sacrifices he made to film Oppenheimer, a training regime so strict it changed the actor physically and mentally.
Murphy went on a strict diet before and during filming to achieve Oppenheimer’s signature thinness and lanky look. “I had to lose some weight. You have to compete with yourself, and that’s not a healthy thing to do,” she told the New York Times. The actor didn’t respond to questions about how much weight he lost in total. However, co-star Emily Blunt said she only ate almonds.

Cillian Murphy accepted the role of Robert Oppenheimer before even seeing Christopher Nolan’s script, knowing that he was cut out for the role. He prepared for the role for almost six months. Murphy read the scientist’s biography, listened to lectures by the physicist, and even read to his own dog while walking on the beach. During filming, the actor kept a low profile among his colleagues and rarely communicated with anyone.
