Nicole Kidman says she never works just for the money when it comes to taking on a big Hollywood film, in a new interview with L’Officiel. Given that the Oscar-winning actress is known for her work in independent films, she’s always asked about her motivation when accepting roles in big projects.

The actress explained why she wanted to star in Aquaman and Batman Forever in particular. “Everyone was like, ‘Why are you doing this?'” – Kidman recalls the confusion she felt when she was cast as Dr. Chase in Batman Forever. “I was like, ‘Because I can kiss Batman!’… People don’t understand that it’s not about the check. I hope that most of the popular blockbusters that I’ve been in are different,” Nicole said.
The actress had the same questions when she signed on to play the lead role of Queen Atlanna in Aquaman. She had no passion for the Aquaman comics but she did have a love for director James Wan and his horror movies. When the celebrity called her for the role, she was very happy because at first she thought it would be a horror movie.
In recent years, Nicole Kidman’s work in miniseries has become as popular as her work in films. Her Emmy-winning work in Big Little Lies was just the beginning of a television series that would include Play Back, The Expats, Nine Perfect Strangers, and the upcoming miniseries The Perfect Double.
“I fell in love with the long form because I like to build characters and have them be limited,” the star said. “It’s a slower-paced movie than a movie where you only have two hours to tell your story and build your character,” she added.
Nicole Kidman previously explained why she took on the role in Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. Read about it here.
