Francis Ford Coppola admits he still kissed women on the set of ‘Metropolis’

The cult director has once again responded to accusations of inappropriate behaviour, but while he previously denied letting her kiss him, he has now admitted it. Francis Ford Coppola has said he kissed women on the set of Metropolis, but refused to accept that it was unprofessional.

Note that just before the film’s world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, press reports emerged that the filmmaker had been accused of inappropriate actions towards some women on set. Witnesses told The Guardian that Coppola, 85, “came onto the set and tried to kiss some of the scantily clad and scantily clad female extras” while filming a steamy nightclub scene.

Various sources claim that the director was “old school” in his treatment of female members of the cast and crew, even making some of them sit on his lap.

When asked by Rolling Stone if he “kissed or touched extras in a way that some would consider inappropriate,” Coppola responded: “You’re talking about a Guardian article, which is completely untrue.” “The truth is, they were looking for some dirt,” he said. “The young women I kissed on the cheek for the New Year’s scene were young women I knew,” Coppola added.

Keep in mind that the scene in question was filmed at the Tabernacle concert hall in Atlanta in February 2023. According to the listing, the female extras playing the party girls were topless and other members of the scene were “permitted to be filmed semi-nude.”

Coppola allegedly jumped up to kiss and hug multiple women while directing, often inadvertently inserting himself into the frame and thus ruining it. An insider described the behavior as “unusual.” After a few takes, Coppola allegedly took the microphone and told everyone in the room, “I apologize if I come up to you and kiss you, just know that this is purely for my own pleasure.”

Interestingly, the director initially denied the allegations in June when asked by the New York Times about a Guardian report detailing the incident. He told the publication: “I’m not emotional because I’m ‘too shy.'”
