Robert Orben wittily noted that in the eyes of our bosses, our work is essential when we need a break somewhere, but useless when we ask for a raise. Paradoxical but true. You can be spinning like a squirrel in a wheel, but the moment you start talking about a promotion, for some reason your luck changes. Here are some reasons why management may not promote you.
By the way, we previously wrote about which zodiac signs most often become CEOs.
You don’t have enough experience

The first and commonplace reason. Sometimes we overestimate our skills and abilities, considering ourselves more valuable than others. Try to be less critical of others and do not envy, but look at what a person does objectively and make the management choose him over you. Perhaps the person has more experience, is not late, meets deadlines, and finally knows how to communicate. The second skill does not necessarily mean that he is suitable for management. Most likely, he knows how to resolve conflicts, listen to the needs of others, and keep up with all the news. If you were not promoted, do not hold a grudge, enroll in advanced training or public speaking courses.
Whatever is on your mind, on your tongue

Frankness sometimes borders on stupidity. A leader must be able to suppress primitive instincts and resolve conflicts diplomatically, so that no harsh attacks on clients, partners or colleagues are absolutely unacceptable. In addition, many have a habit of being overly frank and revealing their personal problems to colleagues. This kind of “spiritual exhibitionism” often works against you, because if you say that you hate working with people or are afraid to drive, positions that require these skills may go to others. The habit of complaining can cost you dearly: after all, if you have no one to leave your child with or constantly ask for leave for health reasons, your boss is unlikely to always be in your position.
You are too shy or obsessive

People who do not feel with whom and at what distance to communicate cause discomfort. Sociable and optimistic employees are valuable in any team, provided that they do their job well and do not distract anyone. You should not reveal your soul in front of your superiors, but it is also inappropriate to lie or constantly remain silent, ignoring the conversation. Still, the golden mean between shyness and arrogance is valued.
Your self-presentation skills are weak

It is good to honestly admit your strengths and weaknesses, but at the same time show your desire to work on yourself and develop professionally. It is equally important to be able to present yourself and offer your services. If you are a good photographer and dream of shooting for a fancy magazine, then why not offer your services to journalists or designers you know? Maybe people have not seen you in this capacity and are actually ready to offer you a place. At the same time, you will be offered to friends of friends or simply remembered when the rush begins. And then you will have a chance to show yourself in the best light. After all, agree, no one will know about your talents until you declare yourself. In order to attract attention, it is important to learn from others, for example, to watch how the top stars and opinion leaders manage their social networks. Take from them what suits you. Develop your portfolio to be noticed.
You are irresponsible and indifferent to work

It is always pleasant to work with someone who shines with their work. After all, their enthusiasm can blame others. If you are late with a cup of coffee in your hand, delay important tasks and constantly dump your work on others, this makes you an irresponsible person in the eyes of the team. That is, other colleagues have to take on the responsibilities of others or do the same for you. Sooner or later their patience will run out, so it is very important to show yourself as a disciplined and caring employee. It is also important not to be lazy and to be able to immerse yourself in a problem, to examine it from different angles and, ideally, to look for a solution that suits everyone. Instead of bothering you with emails and instant messengers, first find out who and what you are selling. You do not need to knock on every door, offer the same thing and be intrusive: just adapt an individual request to each person and the specific task.
