Engineers at the start-up Savor have come up with an alternative to butter that does not use animal products in its production. The Guardian writes that the new butter is literally made from air: carbon dioxide, hydrogen and oxygen.

The company’s ambitious experiments are backed by Bill Gates. The billionaire sees the future of the grocery industry in alternative products. Savor is preparing to produce dairy-free butter as well as similar ice cream, cheese and milk.
The company guarantees that the taste of its oil is very similar to the taste of a regular product. Bill Gates has already tried it and approved it. In the near future, more people will be able to taste the experimental oil.
Savor aims to help reduce the consumption of animal products, the production of which has a significant negative impact on the environment due to the associated greenhouse gas emissions.
Sales of the “out of thin air” products won’t begin until 2025. The company is currently conducting pre-sales and seeking regulatory approval to sell its product.
