The kite chick survived thanks to the participation of kind people and one warm pita. The baby fell out of the nest and had almost no chance of survival.
A Texas family discovered the chick during a barbecue. They felt sorry for the bird and immediately called the Wild West Animal Rehabilitation Center. While animal rights activists went to the scene, the mother of the family decided to wrap the baby in a hot tortilla heated on the grill to keep it from freezing to death.
“The little kite, affectionately known as “Taquito”, has adapted well since his rescue. He supports a healthy appetite and has become quite popular on the internet. He will be in our care for about two months,” reads the official page of the wild animal rehabilitation center.
The centre is now raising money to cover the costs of caring for the animal, with donations going specifically towards insects and frozen mice for the furry baby.
