It’s official, antibiotics for cystitis are available without a prescription

The decree authorizing pharmacists to prescribe antibiotics in case of angina and cystitis appeared in the Official Journal on Tuesday 18 June.

If you are prone to repeated cystitis or tonsillitis, you will no longer have to go to the doctor to get the right antibiotic treatment.

From Tuesday 18 June pharmacists are authorized to prescribe antibiotics to treat these two pathologies, which are benign but very disabling and painful. The decree published today in Official newspaper specifies that the “broader skills” of pharmacists concern group A streptococcus throat bacteria (the main bacterium causing bacterial tonsillitis) and “uncomplicated acute cystitis in women”.

In order to be given the appropriate antibiotic (amoxicillin in case of angina, fosfomycin in case of urinary infection), patients will need to take a test at the pharmacy: a “rapid angina test” or a urine test for cystitis. . As stated The Parisianthese tests are subject to the age and condition of the symptoms (absence of fever or ongoing pregnancy, for example).
