The French adaptation of It Ends with Us (Nevermore) has been revealed in a first trailer punctuated by a Taylor Swift song. This bestseller, a TikTok phenomenon, addresses the topic of domestic violence. The film will be released in theaters this summer.

It’s unlikely you missed it. In bookstores, the book rose to the top second place among the best-selling titles in France in 2023. On TikTok, it is impossible not to notice the phenomenon, which leads to the most emotional and enthusiastic reactions from BookTok content creators. A faithful adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, the film produced by Sony immerses us in the daily life of Lily Bloom, a young woman who witnessed her father’s physical and psychological violence against her mother during her childhood. Traumatized through this domestic violence, the young woman tries to rebuild her life in Boston, where she opens a flower shop.

It is there that she meets Ryle, a man with whom she begins a relationship passionate relationship… until he recognizes the same in him dominant and violent attitudes than with his father. That’s when Atlas, Lily’s first love, resurfaces.

Although this synopsis seems to announce a romantic novel, It Ends With Us has impressed viewers with the way it deals with much less light themes such as domestic violence and the systematic nature of patriarchy.

When do we go out?

Alongside Blake Livelyn (who plays the role of producer of the film), Justin Baldoni (also director) and Brandon Sklenar, the cast also includes Jenny Slate, Amy Morton and Hasan Minhaj. Never again will be released in cinemas next August 14th.
