On May 14, the largest industry event for the influencer marketing market took place in Moscow – Conference of the Association of Bloggers and Agencies. The festival “Bloggers of Russia” organized one of the business discussions within the framework of the conference – “Bloggers of Russia: are they right or are they obliged?” He touched upon the rights of influencers and their responsibilities towards society and the state.
The blogger community was represented by Oksana Samoilova and Nikolai Sobolev, and Chairman of the State Duma Youth Policy Committee Artem Metelev spoke on the side of the state. Natalia Salnikova, lawyer of blogger Elena Blinovskaya, also participated in the discussion. And the moderator of the “discussion” was media expert Georgy Lobushkin.

Of course, the main topic of conversation was whether the government should regulate bloggers’ activities or whether their communities should focus on self-regulation.
“At this stage there is a gap. We need contact with the state, and I believe that the state also takes care of us,” said Oksana Samoilova. “Unfortunately, it is not possible to regulate absolutely everyone. Therefore, I think that at this stage the state should think about introducing measures to combat harmful content, but not repressive measures , should aim to support the community and blog associations, already existing agencies,” said Nikolai Sobolev.

“The responsibility of the state at this stage is to suppress illegal activities, especially the so-called infogypsies and garbage broadcasters, which cause serious harm not only to their viewers but to the whole society. But we believe that creativity and self-expression should not be interfered with, so the state’s position here is the need to create self-regulatory institutions aimed at blocking the negative influence of some members of society,” explained Artem Metelev and Natalia Salnikova agreed with him.
The discussion ended with all parties agreeing on the need for an open dialogue between the government and the blogging community.
