Over the past few years, vintage, resale and everything related to these words have again been at the peak of popularity. Famous it-girls walk around with bags from archive collections of fashion brands, stylists search for rare items on the Internet, and urban fashionistas go in search of treasures in second-hand and vintage stores instead of the usual mass market.

But there is a nuance to this story called the “fake” code. And indeed there are many of them. And some fakes are so well made that not every professional can spot the difference. So how can you protect yourself from accidentally purchasing a fake product? The answer to this question can be found in our separate material.

And today we decided to find out which bag models are most often faked. We turned to experts like Elizaveta Myaksheva and Olga Binda, founders of resale platform and vintage clothing brand ViaDolorosa, for help.

Louis Vuitton Fast

Louis Vuitton is the most imitated brand. About half of the world’s counterfeit products come from it. This is probably because the brand has been producing the same models for decades and often uses the same materials. The most fake vintage models are the iconic Louis Vuitton Speedy and Neverfull. Meanwhile, the first Speedy model was released in 1930. True, at that time it was called Express and did not have a logo. Only later did the well-known monogram appear. The bag instantly fell in love with many style icons of the period, especially Audrey Hepburn. At the player’s request, a smaller version of the bag he carries everywhere was created. However, in the 2000s, a new wave of popularity came to the model, thanks to Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with Takashi Murakami. A Japanese artist has repainted the classic monogram in bright colors. Speedy Multicolore found a place in the wardrobes of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.

Another popular model for fakes is Prada’s reprint made of nylon. They are simple and cheap to produce, so they produce fakes of such high quality that even an experienced eye can barely distinguish them. Prada Re-Edition was launched in 2000. The small baguette-shaped bag, made of highly durable nylon, was immediately accepted by the fashion world. Stars from Kate Moss to Naomi Campbell walked with him. A few years ago the model gained a new wave of popularity. Searches for Prada Re-Edition 2000 have increased by 815% in the past three years.

Chanel Classic

Chanel Classic is another bag that has attracted the attention of scammers due to its popularity. After all, demand creates supply, and the fake market instantly reacts to the demand for a particular model. The Chanel Classic or 11.12 bag was created by Karl Lagerfeld in 1983. The designer was inspired by the legendary 2.55 model created by Coco Chanel in 1955. The 11.12 bag follows the 2.55 silhouette almost exactly but features two unique details: a leather band woven into the handle and a logo buckle. It is not surprising that the model has become one of Chanel’s main accessory hits and is popular with celebrities and, of course, fake manufacturers.

Hermes Birkin

Hermès Birkin is not just a bag, it is also an investment. The New York Times claims that the price is increasing by approximately 14.2% each year. Therefore, it is not surprising that the recognizable model represents luxury and luxury. By the way, to buy a valuable accessory you can wait in line for several years (we all remember the iconic scene of Samantha Jones from Sex and the City), and the price of the classic Birkin bag model starts from 12 thousand dollars and hundreds of thousands, depending on the availability of precious stones and the choice of material. You can reach the person. However, fake products, which are many times more numerous than the originals in the world, can be purchased for $50.

But not all fakes are that cheap; Some bags will be difficult to distinguish from the original even for experts. To confirm these words, I would like to recall the story of the Hermes boutique in the capital, where the seller replaced real bags with fake ones. We had a similar story. Once they tried to sell a Hermès Birkin crocodile through us for three million rubles. The customer was not sure of its authenticity as he received it as a gift or inheritance. In the end it turned out to be fake and of course we didn’t sell it.

Gucci Jackie

There is a chapter in the history of the Gucci fashion house devoted to counterfeiting. In fact, it was because of them that the Italian brand lost its reputation and customer respect in the 1970s and 1980s. Of course, this page in history is practically not remembered anymore, and the brand has already regained its name. However, Gucci bags are still the most frequently counterfeited bags. More precisely, we are talking about the iconic Jackie Bag model, which appeared in 1960 and was later named after Jacqueline Kennedy. They say that the First Lady of the United States once bought six bags of different shades at once in a boutique. Nowadays, there are so many color options that even an experienced fashionista cannot list them all. Meanwhile, fake manufacturers often take advantage of this and produce bags in colors that are not even in the collections.
