Leonardo DiCaprio was among the candidates to portray Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The director of the film, Zack Snyder, announced this.
The 49-year-old actor met with the project management and his candidacy was even considered among other applicants. But in the end, the role went to Jesse Eisenberg.
“In many ways, I think he’s the one who pitched me on the idea of Superman fighting the Justice League,” Zack Snyder said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
Interestingly, years later, DiCaprio advised his young colleague Timothée Chalamet to never star in a “superhero” movie. Meanwhile, the movie “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” released in 2016, received mixed reviews from critics. The film was also considered a box office disappointment. Perhaps DiCaprio’s acting intuition paid off.
