Australian entomologists have named a new ant species Leptanilla voldemort in honor of the hero of “Harry Potter” Voldemort, ZooKeys magazine writes.

Researchers described an underground ant species they found in a 25-meter-deep exploration well in the west of the country.
These pale yellowish insects are very small (about one and a half millimeters long) and have long limbs, antennae and jaws. But it has no eyes. They spend their entire lives in darkness, which reminded scientists of Voldemort with their pale color and graceful body shape.

Ants of the genus Leptanilla are among the strangest and least researched ants in the world. These creatures live underground in small colonies and almost never come to the surface.
These ants feed on underground invertebrates, and adult individuals drink the hemolymph of the larvae of their species, which they secrete through special channels on the body surface.
