Telling people about their actions against sexism on TikTok is the latest ‘microfeminism’ trend

This new feminist TikTok trend allows women to give advice to better combat everyday sexism and misogyny.

On TikTok we find the best and the worst, especially for women. But this new trend shows that there is still some hope. The new tag #microfeminism – translated as “micro-feminism” in French – collects videos of women talking about their daily feminist actions.

A way to fight daily misogyny

These Internet users then talk about the subtle changes a person can make, especially in the workplace, to combat gender inequalities and stereotypes, or witness (spicy) responses to misogynistic microaggressions.

The trend started after the content creator Ashley Chaney he says in a video: “ When I send an email to a CEO or a company manager who has an assistant, I always put the latter as the main recipient, and I mention him first to greet the recipients (….) this may be nothing, perhaps no one cares will notice, but for me it’s a way of saying “we know each other” », mentions as we can see below.

How to fight sexism on a daily basis, especially at work?

Subsequently, several women also decided to share their micro-feminist actions. AS Katie Woodswho said in a video: “ If I have to speak to the board of directors, to the CEO of a company, I always say ‘let me know what he says’. Always her, by default. »

Yet another, who appears to be a professor, says “ If a boy and a girl raise their hands at the same time in my class, I will give the floor to the girl first “.

Yet another reports: “ I’m a bartender and whenever a man feels the need to order his drink in a super masculine way (…) I like to respond in a very nice way. ‘Oh, just a beer, oh, I love it, it’s super refreshing’”.

In the comments of these TikToks, other women talk about their micro-feminism: “ I addressed my wedding invitations saying ‘Mrs. and Mr. Jane Smith’ “, writes one, while another reports: “ When a group of male colleagues finishes a project or presentation, I don’t say “great job, gentlemen” but “great job, guys,” the same way professionals say “great job, girls.” “. This proves that any means is good to combat everyday misogyny.
