What is banana botox and what are its effects on the skin?

A new TikTok trend is starting to gain momentum on the Chinese social network: Banana Botox. But can this fruit really replace this act of aesthetic medicine?

Rubbing your face with a banana peel may seem strange, but it’s a beauty trend that’s creating a stir on social media. And if many Internet users are starting to get passionate, it’s because The peels of this fruit supposedly offer the same firming effects as Botox on the epidermis, carrying out a hydrating and anti-redness action.

To obtain these results it would be enough to peel a banana and rub the inside of the peels on a completely cleansed face for half an hour to reduce wrinkles. Forehead, chin, cheeks and even around the eyes… All parts of the face pass through it, even the most sensitive. But what to think of this method, to say the least… Surprising?

A method not scientifically proven

Even if we want to believe it, There are absolutely no studies that demonstrate that banana peel can have effects similar to Botox. What’s worse, none of the active ingredients contained in this fruit or its peel act on the elasticity of the skin. These two elements, however, can have purifying, anti-inflammatory and anti-redness properties. Banana also has antioxidants such as ascorbic acid and cyanidin, which help fight inflammatory damage caused by stress or pollution.

Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that these effects can act in a targeted manner on elasticity of the epidermis in the words of Dr. Kunal Malik, a dermatologist interviewed by the media PopsugaA:

“The reality is that the skin-beneficial compounds in the banana peels they are likely not absorbed through the skin on a molecular level, and any topical benefit, if any, would be short-lived and temporary. You’re better off eating those bananas than getting them on your skin. »

Disappointing…
