The city of Arras adopts longer co-parenting leave!

The city in northern France has decided to experiment with co-parenting leave by adding another six weeks to the legal 28 days.

This is a big step forward. On February 19, the City Council of the city of Arras voted unanimously to implement co-parenting leave for its municipal officers.

Promote the involvement of both parents

After the city of Lyon, which offers longer paternity leave for new fathers, Arras, in northern France, also stands out.

From that moment on, municipal officials will be able, in addition to the 28 days of paternity leave, to take up to 6 consecutive weeks as a continuation of paternity leave.

Frédéric Leturque, mayor of Arras, said on the municipality’s official website that this approach is part of a greater commitment to gender equality:

Beyond the issue of equality, there is the issue of parenting. In Arras we have been working for years on the support and well-being of children, from an early age..

Frederic Leturque

We hope that this measure can spread throughout the national territory. Please note that from July 2021 in France fathers can benefit from 25 days of paid paternity leave (including weekends) in addition to the three days of birth leave.
