Style icons of the late USSR: how the soloists of the groups “Mirage”, “Combination” and “Kino” dressed

The eighties are back in fashion. The new generation enjoys watching TV series and movies about the 80s, taking note of the style elements of the entire decade and adding the songs of the cult bands of that period to their playlists. By the way, music plays a huge role in this story. And now we are talking about Russian artists, not foreign ones. More precisely, Soviet ones.

For example, the song “New Hero” by the band “Mirage” is still among the ten most listened to songs of the month. This is the long-term impact of a sensational project in the 80s. By the way, this year a series about the group “Combination” will be released. And this is another proof that the late USSR era is back in trend.

On this occasion, The Fashion Vibes’s fashion department decided to prepare an article about the style of the most famous groups of those years. We tell you what the members of the groups “Mirage”, “Kino”, “Combination” and, of course, “Bravo” wear.

“Mirage”

Understanding all the soloists of the Mirage group is a task with an asterisk. Firstly, because there were seven of them, and secondly, they all performed at concerts in 1988. An important clarification: They performed not together, but at different concerts in different cities. Moreover, all the girls sang along with the soundtrack. But still, this didn’t bother fans of the overly commercial band at all. Therefore, the soloists of the Mirage group in the late 1980s were real it-girls and, let’s not be afraid of this word, style icons.

They wore micro shorts (which, by the way, are still relevant today), fishnet tights, low-cut tops, rough leather jackets and leather miniskirts. They styled it all with lace gloves, bright red gloves, belts (plural) and accent jewelry. We 100% approve of this scene visual.

“Combination”

Few people know, but the group “Combination” arose under the influence of the group “Mirage”. The creators of the group have repeatedly mentioned this in interviews. True, the concept and style of the band members were diametrically opposed. “Kombinashki”, as the soloists were called, heavily painted their eyes with blue shadows, made huge updos (making it a real trend), wore bright tights in combination with skirts, very short dresses and glitter tights. And we almost always performed with gloves. The more popular the group became, the faster the new generation adopted elements of its members’ style.

“Film”

At the end of the Soviet period, Viktor Tsoi formed the personality of the romantic hero who demands change, does not want to step on anyone’s chest and binds everyone with his sincerity. In a short but very bright life, he became not only a rock star of the All-Union scale, but also an icon of style. Although he himself admits: “I don’t care.” Still, millions of young people dreamed of rough leather jackets, “Two Balls” sneakers, business jackets and printed T-shirts, like the soloist of the Kino group.

The latter, by the way, appeared in the rocker’s wardrobe thanks to Joanna Stingray, an American singer and friend of the regulars of the Leningrad rock club. Viktor Tsoi almost never went on stage without his favorite leather bracelets and chains, and also made black the main “feature” of his image.

“Bravo”

“Bravo” is another group imitated by Soviet youth of the 1980s. Unlike the teams mentioned above, Bravo were excellent students. Not in terms of behavior, of course. And in the context of style. Zhanna Aguzarova, who was the soloist at that time, and other participants enjoyed wearing oversized jackets with masculine shoulders, patent leather shoes, bow ties, colorful ties, checkered suits, knitted vests and other elements of chic style. .
