BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL animated film will star Tim Drake’s Robin, screenwriter confirms

The imminent Batman: Knightfall the animated film is shaping up to be something truly exciting for longtime DC fans, especially those who grew up with the ’90s era of Gotham.

A big question fans had has finally been answered thanks to Jeremy Adams, the project’s screenwriter, who confirmed which version of Robin will fit alongside the Dark Knight.

Warner Bros. Animation has revealed the multi-part animated adaptation of the legendary Batman: Knightfall plot during the New York Comic Con panel.

Part 1: Knightfall is driven by Jeff Wamestera veteran of the DC animated universe, and is currently in production for a 2026 release.

Adams took to Instagram to share his excitement, writing, “Very excited. The movie reigns supreme and I’m thrilled to have had the chance to adapt it.”

Naturally, fans flooded the comments with hype and questions. One question many fans had was whether or not the version of Robin featured would be the original Knightfall-era Robin, Tim Drake, or a modern replacement like Damian Wayne.

Adams responded by saying, “No bro. It’s old school Tim.” [Drake]. He’s so good at this.

Tim Drake was created by Marv Wolfmann AND Pat Broderickdebuting in Batman #436 as the third character to take on the role of Robin.

While not as universally known as Dick Grayson, Tim’s legacy runs deep, especially in animated projects where he was voiced by Matthew Valencia, Eli MarienthalAND Dean Stockwell.

His only live appearance has arrived Titansplayed by Jay Lycurgo.

This adaptation will mark the DC Universe’s first original animated film since then Guardians it concluded its two-part run in 2024.

The official logline of Batman: Knightfall it reads: “When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane liberates Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”

No voice cast has been announced yet, but with this confirmation from Tim Drake, fans of DC Comics’ classic lore have even more reason to be pumped for what’s coming.

Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in 2026.
