Jeff Carson, who hit 14 tracks on Billboard’s country music charts, died Saturday of a heart attack at Franklin Hospital, his press officer said. He was 58 years old.
Carson had hits like “Not On Your Love” (# 1) and “Car” (top five) before leaving the music industry and becoming a police officer. He recently started recording again and released a single that was a bit of a comeback.

Born in Jeffrey Lee Herndon, Tula, Oklahoma, in 1963, Carson sang in church and formed a band in Rogers, Arkansas, before moving to Branson, Missouri, and became a local attraction in the city of music.
Carson then moved to Nashville and recorded demos for stars Tracey Lawrence, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and other stars of the country. In 1995, he got his record deal with Curb Records and released the single “Yeah Buddy”. He went on to record the singles “Not On Your Love” and “The Car,” which earned Carson the country’s first Oscar for video of the year.
Carson had 14 singles on the Billboard charts during his career before leaving music to become a police officer in Franklin, where he remained with the police at the time of his death.
Carson returned to music in 2019, releasing the previously recorded song “God Save The World”.
Carson was in the studio with Buddy Height, to record an album that would be released later this year with duets with Michael Reyes, Daryl Worley and others, his press officer said.
Information on survivors or memorial plans was not immediately available.
