You may have already noticed it in other major series and cinema award ceremonies. Many actors wore a red pin with an orange hand in the center, which was dotted with a black heart, during the Oscars ceremony held on March 10, 2024 in Los Angeles.
What does the red pin with the orange hand worn during the 2024 Oscars mean?
Director Ava DuVernay, actorAvengers Mark Ruffalo, or even the singer Billie Eilish, wore the pin that we owe to the Artists4Ceasefire collective which calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, as an actor of Poor things Ramy Youssef with Variety :
“We demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. We demand peace and lasting justice for the Palestinian people. »

“We condemn the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians”
The petition found on the Artists4Ceasefire collective’s website is accompanied by an open letter further explaining the intentions behind the pin:
“We demand that as President of the United States, you and the United States Congress demand an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost. In the last 4 months, more than 29,000 people have been killed and more than 60,000 injured*: figures that anyone with common sense knows are catastrophic. We believe that all life is sacred, regardless of faith or ethnicity, and We condemn the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians.
We urge your administration, Congress and all world leaders to honor all lives in the Holy Land and to call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay – an end to the bombing of Gaza and the safe release of the hostages.. Half of Gaza’s two million residents are children, and more than two-thirds are refugees and their descendants forced to flee their homes. Humanitarian aid must be able to reach them. »
