Children’s Books: The 10 Best Children’s Albums of February 2024

We won’t let ourselves be depressed by the cold and winter, on the contrary, we will take advantage of it and discover these beautiful albums, which will warm you almost as much as a hot chocolate.

Hop, here we are again with our selection of children’s books! Here are our little favorites for this cold month of February.

Patatouille – Solal has been in love for 5 years

Patatouille returns, to our greatest pleasure. By Tiffany Cooper, published by We don’t count for butter, Patatouille number two is as beautiful as the first, which has already delighted us. Here we find Solal, in love with Nassou. He would like to show her that he loves her, only Patatouille gets involved with her and gives him completely outdated and useless advice. Once again Tiffany Cooper manages to send strong messages to young people, ranging from the notion of consent, masculinity, feelings, sexism and respect for others. A nugget!

There are monsters in my room, ages 4 and up

Fanny Pageaud publishes, published by À pas de loups, a very nice album for all those who are afraid of monsters at night. The book itself is mysterious, as it is read with a lamp sliding beneath the pages, to reveal the monsters hidden in the shadows. Luckily, once the book is finished, the watches remain prisoners, and no one is afraid anymore. A valid support to help the little ones overcome the fear of the dark when the evening arrives.

Little joy, from 3 years

Small happiness by Yue Zhang, published by l’École des Loisirs, is breathtakingly beautiful, in its writing and illustrations. First prize of the Academy jury, but also silver medal of the Golden Dragon Award, this album is soft, touching, poetic and delicate. It tells the story of a little Joy, who missed the distribution of magic, and who goes to help a fox and her father in their restaurant, to help them promote their place and their wonderful soup. After reading we only want one thing: to take a sip, in the company of a little fluffy fox.

The mountain, from 3 years

If you like beautiful illustrations, colors and amazing graphics, go check it out The mountain by Ximo Abadia, published by Gallimard Jeunesse. This album makes you rediscover the mountains in summer and winter with humor, and makes you want to book your next holiday in the mountain pastures, rather than on crowded beaches.

Pauline travels, from 6 years old

Preferred alert for Pauline Journey by Marie Desplechin, illustrated by François Roca and published by L’École des Loisirs. In this sublime album, we embark with Pauline on board a cruise to Spitsbergen. Pauline is not a little girl who keeps her tongue in her pocket. Very upset by the fact that her father sent her on a trip with her singer friend, she decides to write him a letter a day to tell him everything she sees and does, trying in every way to make him understand that the decision to send her on a trip without him it was the worst idea. Fun, touching, spicy enough, it should be devoured quickly.

Léon says no, starting from 2 years old

Written by Violette Vaïse and published by L’Agrume, Leon says no it is perfect for all children who are in the opposition phase, also called the “terrible twos”. Do you know that famous phase when children still don’t talk much, but are very good at saying no? Well here’s the perfect book for all the little tornadoes who want to do everything except say yes.

Philonimo, Schopenhauer’s hedgehog, from

Do you have to be a certain age to learn philosophy? NO. This is the winning bet of Alice Brière-Haquet who publishes, with 3oeil editions, a whole series of small books to explain the great philosophical concepts to the little ones. Our little favorite? Schopenhauer’s hedgehog. Thanks to this beautifully illustrated bestiary, we understand why we are all a little porcupine.

When we are in the middle, from 4 years

Another favorite notice for this sublime album by Anika A.Denis, illustrated by Christopher Denise and published by Kaléidoscope editions. Whether you yourself have been the middle child or it is the place of one of the children you know, every word will speak to you and make you smile, even shiver. The drawings are gorgeous, detailed as we like them and sweet like these three bunnies.

I want to do it myself, from 2 years old

Now, is your heir at the stage where he wants to peel his own banana at the risk of unleashing an emotional storm if you ever dare to do it for him? Well, I can only advise you to read I want to do it myself by Flore Brunelet, illustrated by Madeleine Brunelet and published by Flammarion. From the “Nursery Years” collection of early childhood books, it is an excellent resource for learning to look at the main stages of development of little ones, from their point of view.
