A study conducted by American researchers from the Oregon Health and Science University in the United States recently demonstrated that it would be preferable to alternate arms when administering a dose of the vaccine to boost the body’s immune response. Published on January 16 in Journal of Clinical Investigationthis discovery seems to make sense, but until then scientists had made no recommendations regarding the area to be punctured.
But why does the change in weapons show such results? According to Dr. Marcel Curlin, medical director of OHSU Occupational Health and co-author of the study: “By switching arms, you essentially have memory training in two places instead of one.”.
Covid-19: a favorable period for scientific discoveries
It was during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic that 947 OHSU employees received a dose of the vaccine. The second dose was administered randomly in the same arm as the first or in the opposite arm. The analysis of several samples allowed scientists to quickly realize this that people who received one dose of the vaccine in each arm had an enhanced immune response to Covid-19. A very effective response on the very first variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus but also on Omicron.
Although these results are quite convincing, scientists need to carry out further studies before they can make clinical recommendations regarding areas to vaccinate. Continues…
