The fashion calendar is proving increasingly complicated to follow. In the period September-October 2023, the women’s ready-to-wear collections for spring-summer 2024 were on show, then in January it was the turn of the men’s collections for autumn-winter 2024-2025, before the haute couture for spring-summer 2024. As if this wasn’t already confusing enough, some designers decide to show off-schedule, for example Simon Porte who just presented his Jacquemus spring-summer 2024 collection, January 29, 2024.
Jacquemus shows his new BCBG collection at the Maeght Foundation
The French designer chose the Maeght Foundation, in Saint-Paul-de-Vence (in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, obviously) as the setting for his Jacquemus spring-summer 2024 fashion show entitled “ The sculptures “. As suggested by the invitation which consisted of a cut sweater to tie around the shoulders (revealed on January 17th via a teaser in which the actress Kristin Davis, who played the si preppy Charlotte York inside Sex and the city, opens it), it is a particularly good and chic vintage. And for good reason, Simon Porte was inspired above all by photographs of the bourgeoisie of the 80s and 90s, as well as by the hieratic aspect of Giacometti’s sculptures.
Hence the very slender silhouettes, the sweaters tied on the shoulders, the open necklines, the round shoulders like a Provençal costume, and the trousers with increasingly high waists that sometimes form a circle. One of the two geometric shapes, with the square that he uses to reinvent the famous Zizi brogues by Repetto, so dear to Simon Porte that he loves to combine them in all seasons. The Le Petit Calino bag (a bag with a golden circle as a handle) and the Les Double-Sandales shoes are already promising best seller.
But as often happens, in Jacquemus’ fashion shows we talk more about guests (200) than about clothes: obviously Kristin Davis, the surprise Julia Roberts, Kylie Jenner and her 5-year-old daughter Stormi, the rapper Shay, or even his historical muse Jeanne Damas.
