Marie Donoghue, vice president of global sports video at Amazon Prime Video, is leaving the company.
Donoghue informed her employees in a farewell email Thursday. Prime Video just finished its second season as the home of the NFL Thursday night football Parcel.
Donoghue reported to Jay Marine, head of the company’s athletic department. Amazon confirmed Donoghue’s departure to the media but did not comment further.
Donoghue joined Amazon in 2018 as VP of Global Sports Video for Prime Video, leading the tech company’s push into live coverage. In 2022, Prime Video has an exclusive 11-year contract for Thursday night football, which has proven to be a powerful addition to the lineup. This year, as viewers became more accustomed to watching games only via streaming, viewership increased by 24% compared to last year.
In addition to the NFL, Prime Video also streams Major League Baseball, the WNBA and other sports in various global markets. Esports growth contributed to a 26% year-over-year increase in advertising on Amazon in the third quarter to $12.06 billion. Amazon also acquired a stake in the YES Network, the regional sports network controlled by the New York Yankees.
Prior to joining Amazon, Donoghue spent 19 years at ESPN, where he held various positions in business affairs and content reporting.
