There was a very Australian interruption at the Brisbane International tennis tournament on Saturday – Snake stopped playing.
News.com.au reports that former world number three, Austrian player Dominic Thiem, was playing in a qualifying match against Australian James McCabe when a snake was spotted after he slipped on the court.
Although snakes are common in Australia, spectators quickly realized it was a venomous eastern brown snake that was almost hidden in the electrical wires on the side of the track.
First tennis at the Brisbane International is canceled due to storms, then one of the courts is canceled due to a snake on the court.

The game was stopped for about 40 minutes while a snake catcher was called, who arrived and promptly shot the snake.
McCabe was winning the first set 6-2 when the snake arrived, but the delay helped Thiem turn things around and he won the match in three sets.
Rafael Nadal and Britain’s Andy Murray are both taking part in the event ahead of the first of this year’s Grand Slams, the Australian Open, which starts in Melbourne in two weeks.
