‘The Crown’ producer buys Rolling Stones series after it falls victim to Disney cuts at FX

EXCLUSIVE: The Rolling Stones can’t be satisfied with FX.

A major series chronicling the band’s glory years has hit development with FX dropping because of broader content cuts at Disney, the show’s producer said.

Andy Harrys, CEO of The crown Producer Left Bank Pictures said it was “regrouping” on the show and holding discussions about its future – both in terms of a new home and showrunner.

“It’s not on FX [anymore]Unfortunately,” Harry told Deadline. “There was a decrease due to the cutbacks at Disney. It was simply too expensive and too ambitious for the immediate agenda.”

He added: “John Landgraf was very enthusiastic about the scripts and ambitions for the series, but he just didn’t feel like he could get the green light for the next two years.”

Harry has not ruled out returning to FX with the project, but is exploring other options for the show after the Stones allowed their music to be used in the series.

“I do live conversations,” he said. “A writer with a specific vision is really needed. It needs a showrunner who has the time and energy and is completely immersed in it.”

Deadline reported in 2020 that the series was in development at FX Very reliable Author Nick Hornby attached.

The show will focus on the Stones’ glory years, from the band’s inception to 1972. It includes a number of hit albums including Requests for their satanic majesties, Beggar’s Banquet, Let it bloom, Sticky fingers And Exile in the Hoofdstraat.

FX is no stranger to documentaries about legendary British bands. Danny Boyle’s Sex Pistols series gun premiered last year, but has since been removed from Hulu and Disney+ internationally.
