An international study has analyzed the origin of the violent nausea and vomiting present in some pregnant women, which can even lead to hospitalization. The cause is thought to be a hormone in the fetus.

Symptoms that can also put the life of the fetus and mother at risk. If complications are severe, they may lead to intravenous fluid replacement to avoid dangerous levels of dehydration, i.e. hyperemesis gravidarum, which is the most common cause of hospitalization for women during the first three months of pregnancy, explains the Huff Post.

If the study doesn’t provide a miracle cure, it allows doctors to find one solution to treat women who are affected. “ This knowledge gives us a clue as to how we might prevent this phenomenon from happening.”said the professor Stephen O’Rahilly, co-author of the study. That is, building the woman’s tolerance to the hormone before pregnancy to prevent nausea.
