While Gérard Depardieu’s Legion of Honor is about to be evaluated, the actor has taken the initiative by placing his decoration himself “at the disposal” of the Minister of Culture. If several personalities have already lost the Legion of Honour, the actor’s lawyers believe that their client is the victim of a “manhunt”.

Gérard Depardieu is the victim of a “media lynching” according to his lawyers

In the statement sent to AFP, Gérard Depardieu’s lawyers believe that Rima Abdul Malak participated “actively manhunting” it’s at “media lynching” of which they believe the actor is a victim. Notable examples include Patrizio Balkaniformer republican mayor of Levallois-Perret, and his wife Isabelladeprived of the Legion of Honor in 2021 following their conviction in three years’ imprisonment and ten years’ ineligibility for tax fraud of exceptional scope in 2020.

Likewise, the Syrian president Bashar al-Assadwho for his part received the honor in 2001 (again from the hands of Jacques Chirac). chose to return the badge in 2018 while a withdrawal procedure was ongoing, particularly due to the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Syrian civil war. Decorated in 2012 by Nicolas Sarkozy, the producer Harvey Weinstein he is currently serving a 39-year prison sentence for rape and sexual assault. In 2017, Emmanuel Macron announced that he was taking steps to withdraw this distinction, but the current status of the procedure remains unknown.
