Friends star Matthew Perry passed away this fall. Today, the cause of death was revealed.

TMZ reported that Matthew Perry died from the “acute effects of ketamine,” a drug used to treat depression and also recreationally. In the forensic examination, it was determined that the actor was treated with anxiety medication a week and a half before his death, and ketamine remained in the human body for 3-4 hours. According to the medical examiner, the substance in Perry’s body caused both hyperstimulation of the cardiovascular system and respiratory depression.
