Looking for a gift for a busy bookworm? We tell you all about the feminist boxes created by the super Parisian bookshop Un Livre et Une Tasse de Thé.

If you are Parisian or if you follow current events in the world of books, perhaps you already know Un Livre et Une Tasse de Thé. Located a stone’s throw from the Place de la République, in the heart of the capital, this small bookshop with an opaline green window has specialized, since its opening in the autumn of 2020, in challenging works, while leaving ample space for more general books. And it also offers its customers an inclusive and refined coffee corner, where they can enjoy a carrot cake while sipping a chai latte.

“We thought of the bookshop as a place that brings together what drives us in life: literature, but also political commitment. And because we are greedy! We wanted to create a living space, a space for meetings and the exchange of ideas. We asked ourselves how to ensure that the bookshop is not just a place of passage, a meeting place”, explained Juliette Debrix, one of the two co-founders of the place, to us last June.

Feminist boxes for Christmas

This selection, both demanding and aimed at the general public (can be found on the shelves of comics, good books, children’s literature, novels, essays, etc.) is also available in feminist boxes, to be received directly in your letterbox, anywhere in France. Each month, Juliette Debrix and Annabelle Chauvet carefully select recent works or classics around a theme, with a choice of four books: two non-fiction and two fiction, large format or paperback.

The theme of the month of December? Eat ! You can find Lauren Malka’s wonderful essay in the big feminist box, Eaters (ed. Les Pérégrines) or the novel by Julia Kerninon, Attack (edited by L’iconoclasta). The little feminist box offers the Manifesto for inclusive wine (edited by Nouriturfu) by Sandrine Goeyvaerts o Victory, flavors and words (edited by Folio) by Maryse Condé.

And that’s not all: in addition to the book to devour, the feminist box sets contain the bookshop’s newsletter and the invitation to a book club organized on Discord to continue the discussion on the selected works and discover other gems recommended by readers.

Is your budget limited? No problem. The feminist box sets are obviously available by subscription (for 3 months, 6 months, 12 months), but also by direct debit every month, to be stopped whenever you wish. Enough to extend Christmas beyond December and introduce feminism to loved ones in a different way.
