CNN’s “King Charles” premiered to 501,000 viewers

CNN’s debut of King CharlesThe new show, starring Gayle King and Charles Barkley, debuted to 510,000 viewers, according to Nielsen’s flash first-run numbers.

The program’s total viewership fell far short of its competitors: Fox News’ Gutfeld! topped the slot with 1.97 million viewers, and MSNBC averaged 1.62 million The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.

However, the CNN show beat MSNBC in the 25-54 demo with an average of 139,000, compared to MSNBC’s 132,000 The last word and 257,000 for Fox News’ Gutfeld!

King Charles is a weekly show at 10pm ET on Wednesday nights. One of the show’s first guests was Steve Kerr. The program was part of then-CNN CEO Chris Licht’s strategy of prime-time programming with star names. Licht was fired from the network in June, but CNN has continued with The King Barkley Show, a limited series set to air early next year.

CNN Newsnight with Abby Phillip, The show, which airs on the remaining nights of the week in the time slot, averaged 481,000 viewers in November.
