Saturday 25 November was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. For the occasion, the minister for equality between women and men, Bérangère Couillard, declared on France 2 that the government intends to present a new bill aimed at reducing the time for issuing protection orders for women victims of domestic violence.
Reduce the time limit for protective orders to 24 hours
In his remarks conveyed by The Parisianthe minister promised to reduce the current deadline by six: “We have increased the deadline for protective orders to six days. Before we took office, there were more than 40. We will pass a law to allow them to pass them in 24 hours. »
This measure comes in addition to the implementation, scheduled from 1 December, of emergency financial aid paid in a lump sum from the Family Benefit Funds (CAF) to enable victims of domestic violence to leave their homes. On France 2, Bérangère Couillard also made it known that the “New starter package” it would be tested in five departments. This system should allow Caf agents “organise, with local associations, the departure” definitive treatment for women victims of domestic violence.
In 2022 there were 244,300, according to the law enforcement census. 118 women also died at the hands of their spouses.
