A five-year-old British boy dies in a swimming pool tragedy in Egypt during his first holiday abroad

A five-year-old boy has died after falling into a swimming pool during his first holiday in Egypt.

Kelan Logan-Derench, from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, is understood to have suffered a “tragic accident” and fell into the pool with his mother, older sister and grandmother just a day after arriving on Friday. It is not clear where exactly the tragedy occurred.

According to board members, Kelan was in his first year at New Hall Primary School. He was described as a “kind-hearted, mischievous, fun-loving” boy. His family is said to be “completely devastated”.

Kelan was due to become a big brother in February.

A GoFundMe account set up by Serena Whitehead, a friend of Kelan’s mother, has raised more than £12,000 of the £15,000 target to bring his body home and pay the cost of his funeral.

The statement reads: “Five-year-old Kelan Logan-Derench from Sutton Coldfield went on his first holiday abroad to Egypt with his mother, older sister and grandmother on 24 November 2023.” Just a day later, Kelan had a tragic accident. and the pool case. “Kelan was a cheeky, mischievous, loving boy, he was a younger brother to Cienna and would become a big brother himself in February 2024. Local councilor Richard Parkin said: “Serena and other residents are trying to raise as much money as possible to fly Kelan’s body home and to help with funeral costs.”

“My deepest condolences go out to Kelan’s mother, family and friends on her tragic loss.”

Last month, a six-year-old British boy drowned in a swimming pool during a family holiday in Cyprus.

The child was found unconscious by his mother in the swimming pool of a hotel in the popular resort of Paphos.

He was taken to a local hospital and placed on a ventilator, but his condition worsened.

Still unconscious, he was taken to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia for further treatment, but died there on 6 October.

In July, five-year-old Robin Caliskan died at the Atlantic Reach holiday park in Newquay after emergency services received panicked calls saying he was in trouble in the water.

Robin and his family were at the resort about an hour before the tragic incident.
