Former Bloomberg media chief Scott Havens has been hired by the New York Mets as chief operating officer

M. Scott Havens, CEO of Bloomberg Media for nearly two years, has been signed by the New York Mets.

The director will oversee the team’s business operations, whose portfolio includes virtually everything but baseball. The position has been vacant since Sandy Alderson moved into an advisory role last year.

Havens will join the organization in January and report to owner Steve Cohen.

“Bringing someone of Scott’s caliber on board is an exciting development for the Mets organization,” Cohen said in a joint statement with his wife, Alex. “Scott has extensive experience leading world-class media and digital technology companies such as Bloomberg Media and Time Inc. and will bring modern vision and strategic direction to our organization.”

Havens has worked at Bloomberg since 2015 and was brought in to replace Justin Smith as CEO after the director left to help create the new media channel Semafor.

“The opportunity to join the Mets organization is a lifelong dream come true,” Havens said. “I look forward to building on the great work underway that will enable us to drive the push to modernize our strategy across the business, drive new digital and media innovations and ultimately deliver the best sports experience to deliver to our supporters.”

Prior to Bloomberg, Havens held executive positions at Time Inc. and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Cohens purchased the Mets in 2020 and made a series of aggressive player and management moves to return the franchise to glory. The team finished last season with a 75-87 record, good for fourth place in the National League East.
