The French Chess Federation will (finally) take measures against sexist and sexual violence

Raising awareness, implementing sanctions… The French Chess Federation has presented several measures to combat sexual and gender-based violence in the sport.

Last August, fourteen chess players, coaches, officials or referees published an open letter on X (formerly Twitter), denouncing the sexist and sexual violence they suffer on the field.

On Thursday 23 November, the French Chess Federation presented in a press release several measures to better fight against sexist and sexual violence suffered by 17% of women empowered by this sport. New rules which, in February, will replace those considered “obsolete” to combat discrimination and violence.

Communication campaigns will also be implemented in the clubs, as well as in the French team.
