Taylor Swift has written an emotional tribute to a young female fan who died before her Eras show in Rio de Janeiro on Friday night.
On her Instagram account, the solo superstar wrote about her grief over the loss of the 23-year-old woman – named Ana Clara Benevides in international media – who reportedly fainted in the front row of the Estadio Nilton Santos stadium. while we wait for the show to start.
Immediately after the concert, Swift posted the following:
“I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it’s with a broken heart that I say we lost a fan tonight, before my show. I can’t tell you how devastated I am about this.
“I have very little information about her so incredibly beautiful and way too young.
“I won’t be able to talk about it on stage because I’ll be overwhelmed with grief if I even try to talk about it. I want to say now that I feel this loss deeply and my sadness goes out to her family and friends. This was the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to take this tour to Brazil.
International media reports that Benevides died after suffering cardiac arrest. She was resuscitated at the stadium, but was arrested a second time on the way to the hospital.
The concert took place in intense heat and fans had previously complained on social media that they were not allowed to bring water bottles to the concert. Swift was filmed throughout the evening asking for water to be given to the audience and at one point was filmed throwing a water bottle from the stage.
This weekend, she will perform two more shows in Rio, where a reported 120,000 fans will attend both nights.
