Vladimir Putin has threatened the West with his deadliest hypersonic missile yet, claiming it could strike multiple global targets after flying into space at high speed.
The nuclear-capable Avangard missile, said to be capable of hitting targets at 27 times the speed of sound, is seen in new footage installed in an underground launch silo in Russia’s Orenburg region.
According to Moscow, the rocket, with a speed of 20,000 miles per hour and a hypersonic glide vehicle, will be able to leave the Earth’s atmosphere in less than 30 minutes before hitting any target in the world.
The video shows the missile being slowly loaded onto a tanker before being guided to a launch site by a convoy of armed vehicles.
The Avangard is then placed upright before being launched into the air.
The video then cuts to a rough animation meant to demonstrate the rocket’s capabilities.

Putin, who has just returned to Russia from a rare trip abroad to China, claims the West has no way to stop Avangard.
He previously claimed that the Avangard will hit “like a meteorite” and no defense system can stop it.
Putin previously boasted: “The Avangard is invulnerable to the interception of the potential adversary by existing and future missile defense systems.”
A report from the Pool Number 3 news agency said today that “the next Avangard hypersonic missile system has entered combat use.”
It says: “In the Orenburg region, the re-equipment of the Yasnensky missile formation with the silo-based Avangard missile system continues.”
“An ICBM is loaded into a silo launcher with a special transport and loading unit.
“The infrastructure of the position area is prepared for the deployment of the next missile regiment for combat operations, including facilities for service preparation, combat deployment and personnel rest.”

In a 2018 video, he explained: “As the glider moves toward a target, it performs extensive maneuvers, both sideways and up to several thousand.” [miles]and move its height.
“This makes it absolutely impenetrable to any air and missile defenses.”
“The use of new composite materials made it possible to practically solve the problem of long-term controlled flight of a glider unit in conditions of plasma formation.”
“It flies towards a target like a meteorite, like a flaming sphere, like a fireball.”
The latest video of the Avangard missile comes just weeks after Ukrainian intelligence claimed two major Russian nuclear missile tests had failed.
On November 1, Vladimir Putin’s forces “conducted an unsuccessful test of the RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missile, which forms the main part of the ground component of Russia’s strategic nuclear forces.”
The missile went off course on October 25 “as in previous command and control exercises,” the main intelligence directorate of the Ukrainian defense ministry said.
“Similarly, the test launch of the RSM-56 Bulava ballistic missile from a … missile submarine on October 25, 2023 was unsuccessful, again demonstrating its insecurity,” it added.
