EXCLUSIVE: Chernin Entertainment is the latest media company to be hit by a series of layoffs.
We hear that a number of executives, including Bill McGoldrick, are leaving Peter Chernin’s company as part of cost-cutting efforts. It is believed to be part of cuts at Chernin Entertainment as the former Fox boss builds up his The North Road company.
McGoldrick, who previously served as president of original content at NBCUniversal Entertainment Networks and direct-to-consumer, joined Chernin Entertainment in August 2021 as EVP of film and television.
Juan Alfonso, Ian Smith and Jordan Compton also leave. Alfonso, who served as SVP of film and television, also joined in the summer of 2021 after previously holding leadership roles at Starz and Disney. Smith and Compton were creative leaders.
Founded in July 2022, Chernin Entertainment is part of North Road Company, which combines Chernin Entertainment, the US assets of Red Arrow Studios, including Love Is Blind producer Kinetic Content, and Connor Schell’s unscripted company Words + Pictures.
Earlier this summer, former Showtime boss David Nevins joined The North Road Company as CEO, and his former Showtime colleague Amy Israel joined him as president of television last month.
Chernin Entertainment is behind series like Netflix’s upcoming Limited Edition The strangeness, with Colman Domingo; from Starz P-Tal; Apple’s upcoming Jason Momoa series war chief; Luther: The fallen sun And Man on fire, also for Netflix; but also films like Dick’s: The Musical And Ford vs. Ferrari.
